Healing Ground

Masonry Communal House

Inspired by the metaphor of how dispirited humans could be revitalised the same way that wilted flowers could be made to bloom again, I wanted to create a space that could help people heal from past experiences or the stresses of daily life. Thus, I chose to help “wilted” souls grow and heal through horticultural therapy, in the form of gardening.

With a monolithic exterior and small openings seemingly ‘carved’ out of the massing, the building appears protective on approach. Despite this, the interior is extremely cozy, with a greenhouse and a walled garden as the primary communal spaces.

The communal and private spaces are distinguished by the views that they face.
