Castle Park Medical Centre

Timber Frame Medical Centre

This project called for a medical centre to be built in Castle Park, the heart of Bristol city. To challenge the rigidity and rectilinear nature of the site as well as the rigidity and institutionality of medical centres, my building is fluidly shaped, with a curved roof creating spaces of varying volumes. In response to the site, a public square with stepped seating allows a gradual progression from the busy pedestrian street to the medical centre.

My primary objective was to create a safe, comforting and welcoming space. This was done by ensuring that communal areas are filled with light, making them feel open, bright and airy. I also introduced a walled garden with a communal garden as well as private contemplation spaces so that patients have the flexibility of choice.
